Grey Delisle, the voice actress of Azula, recently held an interview in which she discussed her voice acting experiences during the course of The Last Airbender. After a multitude of humorous remarks, Grey was finally asked about The Dark Spirit.
In case you’re unfamiliar with The Dark Spirit, let me fill you in: Some time ago, Grey Delisle used Twitter to confirm that she’d been hired to do voice work for a character known as The Dark Spirit. We never received too much insight on the character at first,so I did some speculation in order to get potential ideas out to the fandom.
But even after Comic-Con, information on The Dark Spirit was limited. Based on what Grey Delisle said in her recent interview, however, it doesn’t seem like there was much to say about The Dark Spirit in the first place. According to Grey, The Dark Spirit will have a “teeny, tiny part” in the upcoming book.
When Grey Delisle was asked if she could “tell us anything about [her] new role as “The Dark Spirit”, her reply was as followed:
All I can say is that I have a teeny, tiny part. It’s not a huge deal at all, so don’t get too excited, haha. It would be amazing if they brought back Azula, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen. But maybe if the fans wanted her to come back, she would because the creators really seem to care about the fans’ opinions.
[The Dark Spirit] It’s a totally different kind of voice and it’s a totally different kind of character. It’s a very different voice than anything I’ve ever done. It’s super creepy and super scary. It was a challenge, vocally.
Because Grey Delisle has a tiny part in Book 2 of The Legend of Korra, we can confirm that The Dark Spirit’s role will also be severely limited. This effectively wipes out any chances of The Dark Spirit being the main antagonist since the Book’s villain will require an extended role.
But I have a feeling that The Dark Spirit’s role will still be important to the overall outcome of the Book. I’d expect The Dark Spirit to be similar to Koh’s character fromThe Last Airbender just because it seems to be another important Spirit that Korra will almost certainly encounter.
Grey Delisle fans may be saddened by the news, but they’d be excited to know thatshe’ll have another role in Book 3 of The Legend of Korra. There is no word yet on the extent of the role, but I’d say her character will be introduced fairly quickly since she already started recording.
