These past few days have truly been what Book 3 is all about — Change. Major announcements have been delivered back-to-back including the transition of Book 3 to digital presentation rather than on-air television. Up until it was explained more thoroughly at the comic-con panel, there seemed to be much confusion on how the remainder of the season would go about. To reiterate from a previous article, the remainder of Book 3 will be premiering online only, through select partner platforms including Amazon, Google Play, Xbox, Hulu, Nick.com, and the Nick App. Below is the schedule and timings for the last five episodes of Book 3: Change.
Yes. It is official. Book 3: Change has officially been moved to digital presentation. After this Friday's premiere of The Terror Within at 8/7c, the remaining 5 episodes of the season will be aired online only. Starting August 1st, the supported platforms including Amazon, Google Play, Xbox, Hulu, Nick.com, and the Nick App will be some of the only places where new episodes will premiere. As of now, Netflix is NOT part of the list. Also to confirm many people's confusion: YES, Book 4 is still going to be releasing. *Watch: The Legend of Korra Game Demo presentation with gameplay. Here is the official statement released by KorraNation regarding Book 3.
Hey Korra Nation! Phew. Some of you may have heard versions of this news elsewhere, but here’s the official word. After this Friday’s on-air premiere of Episode 8 “The Terror Within” at 8/7c, all remaining Book 3 episodes will move to a digital rollout. That means two things: 1) Korra is NOT cancelled, 2) the remaining episodes will roll out weekly on Nick.com and the Nick app beginning August 1, as well as on platforms like Amazon, Google Play, Xbox and Hulu.
Thousands of you have been asking to watch this incredible show online, so hopefully this news works in your favor. Mike and Bryan created a breath-taking season for us all…so get ready to watch it all go down!!!
Thanks for being the BEST fans in the industry and see you at Comic-Con

UPDATE (9:58 PM Eastern): Bryan Konietzko (co-creator of Avatar & Korra) posted this just a few hours ago on his blog. It seems that Korra isn't necessarily going to be taking a break. As noted, Konietzko states about the show moving to digital. And of course, updates and further news will follow as the week goes on and from San Diego Comic Con. Be sure to follow us on social media to stay informed. (Update 11:03 PM - Mike also posted regarding Book 3 via Facebook. Screenshot is below.)
The worst of the worst has just gotten WORSE...
I'm sure that from taking a glance at the title of this article, you may already have a slight understanding of what is going on. That's right. The Legend of Korra's current Book 3 season has just been put on a hiatus. Basically, Nickelodeon has pulled the last five episodes from the expected schedule and announced a temporary break in the season. With having 7 episodes already aired, there will be one last episode (The Terror Within) this Friday on July 25th (8/7c) instead of the usual two. After that, there will be no future episode premieres until further notice. Most believe this temporary pause was put into affect due to the poor ratings Book 3 has been accredited with up until this point. The highest viewership so far this season was on the initial premiere with 1.5 million, still unsatisfactory for Nickelodeon's standards. Since then, the ratings have only plummeted, going as low as 1.1 million viewers for the fourth and fifth episode premieres. Only time can tell what Nick has in store for the future of Book 3. With the San Diego Comic Con panel coming up this weekend, we are expecting to hear more about this hiatus and hopefully news regarding the resuming of the rest of the season. As Book 3: Change is continuing to air on Nickelodeon as the third installment of the Legend of Korra series, it is important that viewers stay up to date with episode details and scheduling information. Not only will this increase pleasant anticipation amongst fans, but it will also allow them to have the full pleasurable effect of experiencing an in-season television series.
After all, these past weeks may have been confusing and quite sudden for some of us. Upon only one week gap-time between the official announcement for Book 3 and it's premiere, not only did Nickelodeon face drastically low ratings in comparison to previous premieres, but also left many fans confused and rather startled. Along with being a rather short season with only 13 episodes, this book has also been stated to premiere two episodes at a time. This results in two effects: short in-season time for Book 3 and a loooong wait for Book 4.
To retrospect, there have been flaws in terms of the overall delivery of Book 3. Promotional marketing factors and premiering time slots seem to be a nice chunk of the issue.
But enough of that; let's focus on why you're at this article in the first place... That's right, you want to take a look at some of the plot details of the upcoming episodes. They are presented below along with their description and premiere date. The schedule below will be updated accordingly to future reports.

The final installment of The Rift comic trilogy has just been announced. Avatar: The Rift Part 3 will be releasing on November 18, 2014. The comic will be written by Gene Luen Yang, illustrated by Gurihiru (a Japanese illustration studio), and published by Dark Horse Comics. The book is already available on Amazon for pre-ordering.
As of now, there aren't any plot descriptions available, but upon further update, they will be added to this page.
Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) is an internationally-recognized event in which local participating comic book shops across the world distribute free comics to anyone who comes into their stores. It is held each year on the first Saturday of May, this year's being on May 3rd.
Avatar comics have been present among the several titles offered at FCBD for the past few years. This year's comic selection of 2014 will feature, yet again, another short Avatar comic book.
Gene Luen Yang, who contributed towards The Promise, The Search and the The Rift trilogies, will be returning to work on this year's exclusive story. I was able to contact him and he provided me with a few details on the comic. He told me that Faith Erin Hicks will be joining him in the production of the comic by completing the illustrations. Yang also introduced a a little bit about the storyline as well: "It stars Suki and Sokka. We were able to incorporate some Kyoshi Warrior back story that Bryan and Mike described to us, that didn't make it into the original animated series," tells Yang to UltimateKorra.
Additionally, Dark Horse Comics (who are the publishers) even have a short description regarding the comic on their website: Sokka follows Suki as she gives a lesson in manners and encourages a young girl’s strength. The comic will be fairly short, only 10 pages long. If you are interested in picking up a free copy, you can visit your local comic book shop. His works are something that each one of us are familiar with, being fans of these television shows. His exceptional work for Legend of Korra has recently been nominated for the GoldenSpirits Award for "Best Score for Television". Regardless, this nomination itself is a prestigious honor and it clearly reflects the overall quality of The Legend of Korra as a series.
Bryan Konietzko (co-creator of Avatar & Korra) posted this production team shot on his blog explaining the progress thus far in terms of the upcoming seasons of Legend of Korra. He states that the fans should expect Book 3: Change very soon and he also reveals that Book 4 is already in phases of pre-production. Konietzko continues on to mention that the production team had just finished their final animatic meeting for the Book 4 finale. Book 4 production is definitely well-under way and Book 3 is just around the corner. For now, we'll just have to bear with leaks and trailers. But until then, keep an eye out for those dragons! It has been reported that the first four episodes of Legend of Korra's Season 3: "Change" have already been completed. Bryan Konietzko (co-creator of Avatar) shared this news on his Tumblr blog around mid-November when he met with three of his friends from Studio Mir (Korean animation company), who were visiting Los Angeles at the time. While we do not have an exact release date as of now, we know for sure that Book 3's wait will be much less than Book 2. Additionally, some sources even anticipate that Book 3 will be premiering in 2014. While this is not officially confirmed, it seems quite likely. [via]
The Legend of Korra's upcoming Book 3 will be called Change. According to The Wall Street Journal, Bryan Konietzko and Michael DeMartino, the creators of Avatar & Korra, released this information in a recent interview. Here's what Michael DeMartino said:
"The title of Book 3 is going to be called ‘Change.’” “It’s all about Korra dealing with the change of the world in this point in time. At the end of Book 2 she says it’s a new era. And it really is and we’re going to show how Harmonic Convergence and her battle with Unalaq and Vaatu kind of shifted the world a bit."
DeMartino also mentioned that their is no set release date as of now for Book 3. However, on the better note, he pointed out that Book 3 is already in post-production progress and is expected to take much less time to air on TV then Book 2 had taken. [via wsj]
